Pet Care Specialist and Owner, Pashe Sykes
Hi! My name is Pashe’ Sykes, a pet care specialist and the sole proprietor of Posh Pet Services. I have chosen this profession for the absolute love of animals. Since I was a very small child, I have taken care of stray, hurt, or unloved animals. I had the luxury of living out in the country with lots of land and parents who loved animals as well. As I got older and went away to college this need did not stop…along the way I have fostered, saved, and rescued over 45 animals. I currently have reached my husband’s limit of household pets, my babies. We have four cats: Baby, an orange tabby I rescued in 2000; Gizmo, a Persian flame point I saved from a pet store in 2003 (okay so he was way too cute not to get); Kitches, a Maine Coon mix, I found in a PetsMart parking lot in 2003; and Cheyenne, Siamese-Himalayan mix, I rescued as a kitten from a facility that was letting her die because she would not eat dry food, in 2003 as well. We have two dogs, which chose us: Sabrina, a Golden Retriever mix a friend saved from an oncoming car on a busy road and found she had no home in 2005, and Gigi, a Bison Frise-Poodle mix, who was calling to my husband and I through PetFinder.com at the Humane Society in 2008.
Now that I am married and have a home of my own, which is not in the country with acres of land, I need to take care of animals in a different way. This is when pet sitting came into my mind, via family and friend's conversations. I already help many people, family and friends included, with their four-legged family members…why not everyone who needs me??? And so, Posh Pet Services was born in the summer of 2009. I am at a point in my business that I am so happy to serve the people of Prosper; I wonder what took me so long to begin my work life with pets of all kinds?
I am an active member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. I also enjoy being involved in local organizations and donate my time and goods regularly. Posh Pet Services is also a partner with Cause for Paws, a local event that a few pet sitters and I began a couple of years back. Four times a year we call upon our clients to donate items to Cause for Paws, where we in turn deliver the supplies to a needy pet shelter in the local area.
I know many of you would like educational and work information about me, so here you go. Before I begin, I must say, "Raider Power!" I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 2004 from Texas Tech University majoring in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Personal Financial Planning. I achieved a Master’s of Science degree in 2006, also from Texas Tech University majoring in Family and Consumer Science Education with a Teacher’s Certification. Since then I have taught in Garland ISD and Frisco ISD as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher at the middle school level. I greatly enjoyed my time helping mold young minds and prepare them for the future with Career Preparation and Skills for Living. I also still stay current in my teaching profession by being an active member of the Texas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and keeping my continuing education current for my professional certification as a Certified Family and Consumer Scientist.
